Hi, my name is Bryony. Around 2 years ago, I decided to strike out on my own and start my own business - again!
I already own another business that I opened in 2019 called Bryony Bakes, where I supply home-baked goods in my local area.
Now, I’ll tell you a bit more about how my business started.
My Fiancé (now Husband) was on the waiting list to have major surgery, which as a result would mean him having to have months off of work to recover. After discussing our plan for during his recovery time I asked "do you get sick pay?". Unfortunately, his company do not pay sick leave - this left me worried! I was stressing about how we would pay the bills for 4-6 months without having to use up all of our savings. I was working full time for the NHS but knew my salary alone wouldn't cover all the bills. What could I do to bring in some extra income? That's when it hit me... crafting!
Why crafts?
Since I was a young girl I would always do arts and crafts with my Nan. She loved to make cards and still does to this day. We would always make something handmade as it felt like a more thoughtful and special gift. Even as a teenager we went to a card making classes together! This is where I got my joy from making things and being proud of what I had made and the progression I made with the quality of my work.
I took the plunge.
I decided to take the plunge and open up another business. I wanted it to link with my current business so I chose Bryony Makes. I went on the GOV website and just went for it. What did I have to lose? NOTHING!
Social Platforms
After registering my business online I created all my social media pages. My website, Facebook Page, Instagram, Etsy, and TikTok. I opened every platform I could to get my name out there and start earning some extra money. Not only that, but I could start making gifts for people to treasure!
How is my business now?
Things are busier than ever, but I love working for myself because every day is different and constantly challenging. I took an intense Etsy course and my Etsy shop skyrocketed in 2021. I had over 2500 sales within 8 months. How crazy is that? My original Etsy shop is now closed and I have a new shop called UKDesignTreasures. Why? Because I have written my own simple Etsy beginners guide to help other people achieve within their store. My new shop is proving to me and showing you that my guide works! Take a look here!
